Lincoln

U.S. History

In the early years of  The Civil War a frustrated President Lincoln wrote to General McClellan "if you are not going to use the army I would like to borrow it, provided he could see how it could be made to do something."

Why do you think Lincoln would write such a comment to his commander?

What events were occurring at this stage of  the war to justify Lincoln's frustration?
